{"id":2078,"date":"2015-03-15T01:29:41","date_gmt":"2015-03-15T01:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ten.co.uk\/?p=2078"},"modified":"2019-08-07T04:24:01","modified_gmt":"2019-08-07T04:24:01","slug":"tips-for-keeping-your-new-years-resolutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ten.co.uk\/tips-for-keeping-your-new-years-resolutions","title":{"rendered":"Tips For Keeping Your New Year&#8217;s Resolutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s nothing like a couple of weeks of Christmas overindulgence to convince us that it\u2019s time to turn over a new leaf, and become better, fitter, slimmer people.<\/p>\n<p>So on Jan 1st, we resolve to give up drinking, adopt a macrobiotic diet, go to the gym and be in bed by ten every night. But within a week or two we\u2019re stumbling back from the pub at midnight, kebab in hand.<\/p>\n<p>So in the spirit of goodwill to all, here are a few tips to help you make sure your New Year\u2019s resolutions last longer than your Christmas decorations:<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"main-h2\">1. Ease your way in<\/h2>\n<p>January and February are cold, difficult months, so don\u2019t start with a regime that\u2019ll make you feel even more miserable. If you start going to the gym, twice a week is fine to begin with. Similarly, a full two months on your new steamed tofu and wheatgrass detox diet may be a bit much for a system used to a generous allowance of mince pies and red wine.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"main-h2\">2. Set realistic goals<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s fine to set yourself a goal that\u2019s a bit of a stretch, but don\u2019t go crazy. So if you\u2019ve never been a runner before, a 10K fun-run by the end of February is an achievable objective. A marathon is not.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"main-h2\">3. Focus on the positive<\/h2>\n<p>Don\u2019t think about how much you miss cheeseburgers or lunchtime drinking. Instead remind yourself why you\u2019re doing this, and how much better you\u2019re going to look and feel as a result. If you fall off the wagon from time to time, don\u2019t beat yourself up. Just get back on it and carry on.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"main-h2\">4. Get help<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s always easier to stick to something if you\u2019re doing it with someone else. So why not go on the same diet as a friend, or train with a workmate &#8211; that way you\u2019ll have someone to share the successes and moan about the difficulties with.
