{"id":2054,"date":"2015-12-10T09:00:06","date_gmt":"2015-12-10T09:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ten.co.uk\/?p=2054"},"modified":"2019-08-07T04:00:44","modified_gmt":"2019-08-07T04:00:44","slug":"surviving-the-party-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ten.co.uk\/surviving-the-party-season","title":{"rendered":"Surviving the Party Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No matter how disciplined we are, this is the time of year when all those good, healthy habits that we\u2019ve worked so hard to maintain all year can all to easily go straight out of the window.<\/p>\n<p>The sushi and salads are replaced by mince pies, the grilled chicken breast turns into roast Turkey with all the trimmings and your 2 litres of water a day gets diluted by one too many glasses of seasonal cheer. (Sorry &#8211; no matter how many Lychee Martinis you drink, they\u2019re still not part of your 5 a day.)<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I\u2019m a sucker for a bit of seasonal cheer, so as my gift to you, here are a few tips to help minimise at least some of the damage:<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Do the basics: <\/strong>If there\u2019s an alcohol-fuelled evening ahead, eat a proper breakfast- it\u2019s the most important meal of the day (porridge with chopped bananas is my slow-release carb of choice this time of year) and make sure you drink at least 2 litres of water a day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* When you\u2019re out, actually eat the canapes at the party<\/strong> (arrive early &#8211; the healthy ones always go first!). They\u2019ll help you avoid the munchie-driven late night dash to the kebab shop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* If you&#8217;re going to wear heels, you may as well go for skyscrapers<\/strong> &#8211; counterintuitive as it sounds, you&#8217;ll work your calves a lot more! If they\u2019re pointy rather than a wedge you&#8217;ll need far more core control as they have a very limited base of support \u2013 so they\u2019ll make your abs work harder, too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* If you\u2019re going to dance, dance.<\/strong> A night spent getting down with your bad self is great exercise, and you\u2019ll burn even more calories if you get your arms involved \u2013 overhead is best.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Lastly<\/strong> (and I know I\u2019m on a sticky wicket with this one), if you\u2019re going out drinking, please do so in moderation.<\/p>\n<p>Have a very merry Christmas \u2013 just remember that while Christmas pud and brandy butter are a marriage made in heaven, so are New Year and resolutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No matter how disciplined we are, this is the time of year when all those good<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":7861,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[12,97],"tags":[57],"class_list":["post-2054","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog","category-fitness","tag-festive-season"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.8 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Ten - 5 tips for surviving the party season with minimal damage<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Maintaining healthy habits this party season can be hard.
