{"id":1946,"date":"2017-12-05T22:53:16","date_gmt":"2017-12-05T22:53:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ten.co.uk\/?p=1946"},"modified":"2019-08-06T11:38:48","modified_gmt":"2019-08-06T11:38:48","slug":"gearing-up-for-the-party-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ten.co.uk\/gearing-up-for-the-party-season","title":{"rendered":"Gearing up for the party season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Millennials are increasingly known for their sensible approach to partying, and so for those of us whose party fuel of choice is a bowl of tuna pok\u00e9 and a glass or two of kombucha \u2026 congratulations. You\u2019re all set for an evening of healthy fun, and an admirably early and sparkly-eyed start in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>For everyone else however, this is the time of year when the healthy habits we\u2019ve been so good about all year can go out of the window, and it\u2019s hard (OK, near impossible) to resist the lure of guess-the-flavour canap\u00e9s, mince pies, and budget prosecco. (Not to mention the shots we <em>absolutely<\/em> promised ourselves we\u2019d stay away from.)<\/p>\n<p>So how to party a little more, well, enthusiastically, and still be fresh(ish) for that 8am class the next day? Ten\u2019s Master Trainer Erica Foulds shares a few of her top tips.<\/p>\n<h3>The demon drink<\/h3>\n<p>I could say stick to water. But I won\u2019t \u2013 it is Christmas after all. But if if you are going to have a few drinks in the evening make sure you drink plenty of water during the day. And a couple more glasses before you go to bed won\u2019t hurt, either.<\/p>\n<p>And when you do drink, choose your poison carefully. Cocktails &#8211; particularly \u2018novelty\u2019 ones with daft names \u2013 are often full of calorie-laden syrups and liqueurs. (Not to mention the highly un-festive hangover that\u2019s the almost inevitable result of mixing your drinks, even if they\u2019re all in the same drink.)<\/p>\n<p>Clear spirits still pack the required punch but are much lower in calories \u2013 a gin or vodka and slimline tonic slips in under 60 calories. Wine \u2013 including bubbly \u2013 is around 80 calories a glass.<\/p>\n<h3>Eat up<\/h3>\n<p>If there\u2019s a boozy evening ahead, eat first. Start with a proper breakfast \u2013 it\u2019s the most important meal of the day (porridge with chopped bananas is my slow-release carb of choice this time of year).<\/p>\n<p>Try to eat before you go out, too. A fibre\/ protein balance will slow down your digestion of carbs keeping you fuller for longer. And more importantly \u2013 at least given my idea of a great night out \u2013 it means more energy for dancing.<\/p>\n<p>Wholewheat pasta with chicken or tuna is a great pre-party option, and if you don\u2019t have time to cook then go for a seedy wholemeal bloomer sandwich with the above.<\/p>\n<p>Failing that, eat the canap\u00e9s at the party. Really. Just make sure you get there early and hoover up the healthier ones. They\u2019ll help you avoid the munchie-driven late-night dash to the kebab shop.<\/p>\n<h3>Dance, dance, dance<\/h3>\n<p>Like you\u2019ll need much encouragement. A night busting out your best moves is great exercise; you can easily burn off 150 calories in half an hour \u2013 and that\u2019s me just getting warmed up!<\/p>\n<p>And if you\u2019re going to wear heels, counter-intuitively, the higher the better. That way, you\u2019ll work your calves a lot more. If they\u2019re pointy rather than a wedge, you\u2019ll need far more core control as they have a very limited base of support &#8211; so they\u2019ll make your abs work harder, too.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>So get out there and enjoy the festivities, and remember; everything in moderation.
